Hedman Family
Information:
Hedman Family Tree
The family tree includes 7
generations of Hedman families (dates and places of births,
marriages, deaths, and burials) starting with
Jonas Nelson who was born in Sweden.
He married Kate C. Unknown before 1866. She was born in Sweden. The
only concrete information for these two individuals comes from the marriage
certificate of there son John Hedman to Anna Dahlgren on October 16, 1900 in
Ironwood, Gogebic County, Michigan.
The 1910 United States Census states John Hedman immigrated from Sweden in 1889, but current research hasn't turned up his exact date or port of arrival or whether he emigrated with other family members. Anna Dahlgren immigrated from Sweden to the United States through Ellis Island on June 2, 1900.
Information on siblings for either John Hedman or Anna Dahlgren are sketchy at best. John Hedman may have had a brother named Carl Leroy Johnson according to stories related to me by his son Harry Berger Hedman. According to the marriage certificate for John Hedman and Anna Dahlgren, John Nelson was a witness to the ceremony. John Nelson could possibly be a brother, cousin, or uncle to John Hedman. Anna Dahlgren had a sister living in California according to her daughter Mabel Trasia Jones and Anna stated in her immigration records that her destination was New York where she was meeting a brother.
Hedman is not the original surname of the family. It is Nelson according to my genealogical research thus far. According to family stories related to me by John Hedman's son, Harry Berger Hedman, his father came over from Sweden with all or part of his immediate family, which may have included as many as fourteen brothers and sisters. Several brothers, including John, supposedly changed their last names; with John changing his to Hedman and one of the other brothers changing it to Johnson. Further research is needed to determine this family's ancestry. Updated 04/15/2008
Other Hedman Lines
Other ancestral lines that I have information on are:
the family of Anna Molvina Christina Dahlgren who married John Hedman on
October 16, 1900 in Ironwood, Gogebic County, Michigan.
